Background

·         Born July 1, 1961

·         Retired American track and field athlete (sprinter and long jumper)

·         After already establishing himself as one of America’s all time greatest track and field athletes, Lewis made the decision to switch to a vegan diet in July of 1990.  Lewis now refers to his 1991 season, his first as a vegan, as “my best year as an athlete ever!”

Career Highlights

·         Won 10 Olympic medals, 9 of them gold

·         Won 10 World Championship medals, 8 of them gold

·         Set world records in 100 meter, 4 x 100 meter relay, and 4 x 200 meter relay

·         His 65 consective victories in the long jump, achieved over a span of 10 years, still remains as one of the sports longest undefeated streaks.

·         Voted “Sportsman of the Century” by the International Olympic Committee

·         Named “Olympian of the Century” by Sports Illustrated magazine
